Reflection on rotation 5

Over the course of the past few weeks, working in workshop five I have learnt a great deal about representation of of spaces and ideas. The workshop provided me with a new and powerful tool for understanding architectual space and ideas. I am sure this will prove useful in trying to understand new spaces in the future. It was also interesting working to create a model that was reprasentative of both my partners and my ideas.

Aside from the conceptial learning, my model making skill has improved greatly. I also now approach model making with a new open minded attituded towards materials.

Shadow Drawings

Cubes and Light

Statment

In going to the space between the Law Building and the Chemical Sciences Building Julia and I decided that the space consisted of an organic space boarded by strong geometric forms on two sides. This produced an elevated feeling.

In our model we therefor endevoured to produce a strong geometric with containing a floating dynamic form.

The model we have produced consists of two 200mm x 200mmm x 200mm cubes. Each contains 3 smaller cubes which are further divided into halves. The halves are made of a translucent membrane and containing a a small opaque or semi-opaque objects which produce a range of shadows. The ability of the any half cube to be combined with any other results in a a large range of shadow possibilities. This represents the dynamic and organic nature of the space we are describing.
